After the summer break, we’re straight back into shinty action this weekend as we produce live coverage of the first of this year’s Camanachd Cup Semi-finals.

Holders Newtonmore take on Kilmallie on Saturday afternoon in a bid for a place in the final of arguably the most prestigious trophy in the sport. Newtonmore’s passage to the semi-final stage involved two away wins, beating Lochaber 1 – 0 before then seeing off Kinlochshiel 4 – 2. We’ll be producing more live shinty action on BBC ALBA this Saturday (30th June) as the final of this year’s Glasgow Celtic Society Cup is held in Taynuilt.

In a repeat of last year’s final, Kyles Athletic take on Oban Camanachd, with the former looking to succeed in the oldest competition in Scottish shinty for a 6th consecutive time. The Tighnabruaich side saw off Glasgow Mid Argyll by 4 goals to 2 in their semi-final match in Yoker. Home advantage helped Oban Camanachd as they defeated Inveraray 2 – 0 at Mossfield to seal their place in the final for the second year running.

This weekend sees the first major silverware of the shinty season up for grabs in the form of the MacTavish Cup final. We’ll be producing live coverage for BBC ALBA from Bught Park in Inverness as Kinlochshiel take on Newtonmore on Saturday afternoon (16th June).

Kinlochshiel booked their place in the last two with a series of high-scoring wins. The 1st Round saw them defeat Inverness 5 – 0 before a 7 – 2 win over Lochaber in the 2nd Round. They then saw off Caberfeidh in the semi-final by the same scoreline.

FIFA World Cup Qualifying returns to BBC ALBA.

The Scottish Women’s national team are back in qualifying action for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, and we’ll be producing the two upcoming matches exclusively live on BBC ALBA. Scotland play host to bottom side Belarus at the Falkirk Stadium on Thursday night (7th June) before then travelling to Kielce to take on Poland in what are must win games for Shelley Kerr and her side. Recent results against both sides give cause for optimism, as Scotland beat Belarus 2 – 1 in Minsk before then defeating Poland 3 – 0 in Paisley in their last qualification match.
