MacTavish Cup final LIVE on BBC ALBA
This weekend sees the first major silverware of the shinty season up for grabs in the form of the MacTavish Cup final. We’ll be producing live coverage for BBC ALBA from Bught Park in Inverness as Kinlochshiel take on Newtonmore on Saturday afternoon (16th June).
Kinlochshiel booked their place in the last two with a series of high-scoring wins. The 1st Round saw them defeat Inverness 5 – 0 before a 7 – 2 win over Lochaber in the 2nd Round. They then saw off Caberfeidh in the semi-final by the same scoreline.
Newtonmore had an equally high-scoring start to defending their title, striking seven goals without reply past their opponents in last year’s final Kilmallie. It took penalty hits to separate themselves and Glenurquhart in their 2nd Round tie as things ended at 1-1 at the end of regular time and 2-2 at the end of extra time. Newtonmore won the shootout 5-4, before then going on to defeat Lovat 1 – 0 in their semi-final.
At half-time of our programme, we’ll have an extended feature with Kinlochshiel Shinty Club. The club have had success in recent years, winning their first senior national trophy in 2016, followed closely by the Premiership title only a year later.
Live coverage of the final on Saturday afternoon starts from 16:00 with the throw-up at 16:05, and you can watch it all on BBC ALBA, the BBC iPlayer, or watch the best bits on BBC ALBA’s twitter page.
