International Football on BBC ALBA
FIFA World Cup Qualifying returns to BBC ALBA.
The Scottish Women’s national team are back in qualifying action for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, and we’ll be producing the two upcoming matches exclusively live on BBC ALBA. Scotland play host to bottom side Belarus at the Falkirk Stadium on Thursday night (7th June) before then travelling to Kielce to take on Poland in what are must win games for Shelley Kerr and her side. Recent results against both sides give cause for optimism, as Scotland beat Belarus 2 – 1 in Minsk before then defeating Poland 3 – 0 in Paisley in their last qualification match.
At half-time on Thursday night, we have an extended interview with Scotland and Hibernian Ladies’ Lizzie Arnot as she makes her return to the national set-up after over a year out through injury. Arnot suffered a rupture in her anterior cruciate knee ligament while on Scotland duty, which ruled her out of last year’s Euros. Amongst other things, Lizzie talks about her joy at being back on the pitch and the sparkling form she has shown, which saw her score five goals in Hibernian’s 9 - 0 demolishing of Celtic in last month’s SWPL Cup Final.
At half-time of our coverage of Poland v Scotland, we’ve been speaking to Scotland and Chelsea star Erin Cuthbert on her successful year with club and country. Erin won the league and cup double with Chelsea this season and, having been part of Scotland’s Euro squad last year and getting their first goal in a major tournament, she is also hoping to build on the national team’s success.
