Waterford TV Company Transmits Titanic Commemoration Globally

With a host of events and activities underway in Belfast for the commemoration of the Titanic, Waterford-based company, Nemeton Digisat, will be in the midst of various events over the coming week as images of the commemorations are transmitted globally for various television networks.

Nemeton Digisat will be providing satellite services for Australia’s Network 7, with live links from Titanic Belfast, a newly built centre at Titanic’s birthplace and the world’s largest Titanic visitor experience. Events will be transmitted live to their morning breakfast programme in Australia, ‘Sunrise’.

Canada’s CTV will also have reporters in Belfast for the commemoration and again on two mornings, Nemeton Digisat will be transmitting live to their morning breakfast show, Canada AM. They will be revealing the connection between the Titanic and Canada’s famous Chateau Laurier and will also take a tour of Belfast’s state-of-the-art Titanic museum.

One of the main events of the week is a special concert for BBC television, Titanic: A Commemoration in Music and Film for which Nemeton Digisat will be providing the satellite images from Belfast’s Waterfront Hall for this live broadcast on BBC Two on Saturday next, 14th April.

Coinciding with the 100thanniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, the concert will reflect the stories of people associated with the Titanic, its design and construction and those whose lives were changed or lost as a result of its ill-fated journey. It will include archive and specially commissioned documentary material, accompanied by stunning visual effects, which will re-tell the story of the ship, those who built her and those who perished or survived.

The line-up for the concert includes Bryan Ferry & Joss Stone, classical Violinist Charlie Siem and acclaimed English tenor Alfie Boe. Northern Irish actors Colin Morgan from the BBC One Series Merlin & Ian McElhinney will also take part.

Founded in 2001, Digisat is a subsidiary of Nemeton TV, based in the An Rinn Gaeltacht, Co. Waterford. Nemeton’s Technical Manager, Tomás Mac Craith says, “We are delighted with our expansion to provide satellite links for major national and global news and sporting events, including the historic events in Belfast. This comes on top of a very successful year in 2011 which saw us cover the Europa Cup Final in 2011, last year’s British Royal Wedding as well as Queen Elizabeth II and US President Barack Obama’s visit to Ireland.”

Later this summer, Digisat will be involved in transmission of the London 2012 Olympic Games to a global audience.
