Students shortlisted for Smedia Awards

smediaFour  programmes from last years Higher Diploma in Television course are on the short list for the best student tv project in Irish. Amongst them are; ‘Cairde Liam’ by Tadhg o hUallacháin from an Rinn and Aisling Ni Fhlaithearta, Arainn. Mic Aonghusa’s historical drama about the Vikings and a live music multi-camera programme by Edel Fox. Also nominated are Micheal O Flaitherta in the Irish language writing category and Niamh Drohan for National Journalism in English who studied in UL last year.

Blaithín Ní Chatháin said “It is a great honour for the students to be nominated as they were competing with UCC, UCD, TCD,DCU, National Film School Dun Laoghaire, DIT, and the other Institutes of Technology media courses. Most of their course work was completed in the An Rinn Gaeltacht where the students lived and filmed for a year.  The Higher Diploma has a great reputation in the media industry for it’s practical skills and the chance it gives students to make their own films, corporate videos or dramas on the course. They learn camera, editing, writing and directing skills to a broadcast standard.”

The Higher Diploma for 2014-15 are currently finalising interviews for Round Two admissions.  For further information to apply see www.wit.ie  www.nemeton.ie
