A defining weekend in the PRO14 & SWPL Cup

The SPFL season may have come to an end on BBC ALBA last weekend, but there are huge games to be played across our sport coverage in the coming weeks.

This weekend’s coverage kicks off for us on Friday night. We’ll be at Scotstoun covering the first of this year’s Guinness PRO14 semi-finals, between Glasgow Warriors and Scarlets.

The Warriors will be looking to bounce back from one win in their last four matches of the regular season, one of those defeats being at the hands of Friday night’s opponents, the Scarlets. Their unbeaten home run in the competition though means they won’t be an easy side to beat. The Welsh on the other hand, have had a successful run in to this semi-final with wins against the Dragons and more importantly the Toyota Cheetahs in their semi-final play-off seeing them through to the Scotstoun showdown. The match will be live on BBC ALBA from 19:35, and we’ll have an extended interview with the Warriors’ Head Coach Dave Rennie. As well as discussing the season as a whole, he places high emphasis on the club culture and strong bonds required between everyone involved.

On Sunday afternoon, the final of the SWPL Cup takes place at the Falkirk Stadium. Holders Hibernian Ladies defeated rivals Glasgow city 3 – 1 in the first semi-final, and Celtic Women progressed against Forfar Farmington 4-1 in the second match of the afternoon to set up a repeat of last year’s final. The showpiece final will also be live on BBC ALBA this weekend from 16:00 on Sunday afternoon. As well as our match coverage, we’ll have an extended interview with Hibs Ladies captain Joelle Murray who will unfortunately miss out on the final having fractured her ankle in an earlier league match against Celtic. We’ll also be speaking to Celtic’s Ruesha Littlejohn on her time at Celtic and the fortunes of the Republic of Ireland in the current Women’s World Cup Qualifying campaign.
