Laochra Gael has been quoted as ‘the defining GAA documentary series’ by Ger Gilroy, Sports Editor at Newstalk and has a well established place in Irish language television & culture.
Now in its 12th series, the show profiles and celebrates the careers of some of the greatest names in Gaelic games. The series originally started way back in 2001 with an hour long feature on the mercurial Ger Loughnane.
This year the programme will include players from Mayo, Clare, Down & Dublin to name but a few. With the final shoot of the series happening within the next 2 weeks, it’s time to watch this space to find out which players are featured this time around.
When asked about the challenges of producing such a show the current Series Producer Isabel Leahy says “It’s our goal to make sure we do justice to each of the players we profile, each who have given so much to GAA fans, their club & county and many dedicating their lives to the sport. We hope in some way each of the Laochra Gael programmes is some reward for the players in recognition of such passion & devotion. And for the viewer, providing an entertaining and often surprising insight into the minds of these dedicated amateur sports stars.”
Isabel has worked at Nemeton for over 5 years and starting as a researcher, she has now gone on to become Series Producer for a 3rd year on Laochra Gael, having also worked on Top 50 & Top 25 GAA shows, the award winning Documentary Darragh Ó Sé, GAA sna 70’s, GAA sna 80’s. Isabel is from Tipperary where she grew up living and breathing the sport and is extremely passionate about all things GAA.
Laochra Gael is produced by Nemeton TV for TG4.
