A commanding fullback, Brian Lohan was a key player on the Clare team that burst onto the hurling scene in the mid 90s. Winning two All Ireland medals and four All Stars he will be remembered as a defensive giant who was very rarely bettered by his opponent. The last man standing for the Dublin footballers during their golden era in the 1970s Paddy Cullen won three All Irelands and four All Stars and went onto manage Dublin in the early 90s. Paddy takes an enjoyable look back at a storied career including his memories of the infamous Mikey Sheehy lobbed goal in 1978. Also features contributions from Brian Mullins, Mick O’Dwyer and Ogie Moran.

This programme will be shown on TG4 at 17.55 on Sunday evening, this St Patrick’s weekend.

Accepting Applications; Round 1

Applications for Round 1 of the The Higher Diploma in television are now open.
The class of 2014 are busy filming their Major Projects at the moment.
There are seven half hour productions being filmed at the moment all around Ireland including a drama set in a school about a ‘Múinteoir Dána’ with students from the Friary acting in it.There is a   music documentary  in Cork; Drama and documentary in  Galway by two Conamara students.  An Arts live concert in Waterford  and a film about Halloween in Derry. Congratulations is due to the students  who just finished filming at the Tionóil na Déise traditional concert in An Rinn on Saturday night. Two students wrote and are directing their own short drama films one is called ‘Múínteoir Dána’ which is being filmed at the moment in Coláiste na Rinne, An Rinn.
All students take at least two roles each of director, camera,editor,producer,sound across all seven films ensuring they get ample practice in a live production environment. Their short term one films can be viewed on the Training Page Vimeo channel.

Ar Fud Na Tíre, on Friday @ 7.30pm TG4

In the 5th episode Eibhlín gets a taste of life in a busy kitchen as she joins Head Chef Pól Ó hÉannraich in Dublin’s Bloom Brasserie for a day and finds out what it takes to run a bustling restaurant in Dublin city.

In East Belfast we meet Linda Ervine and others from the Loyalist community who are breaking the mould and taking up Irish classes. The classes are held in a community centre on the Lower Newtownards Road which is bedecked with Union Jack flags.

And we take a look at the traditional and not so traditional wool industry in South East Ireland.

 

New Series of Laochra Gael

The 12th season of the popular GAA documentary series Laochra Gael returns to TG4 on Sunday the 2nd February 2014.

With ten episodes in all the series begins with John Mullane, the star Waterford forward who intrigued hurling fans with his skill and his quest for an elusive All Ireland medal. A player who always wore his heart on his sleeve John is open and honest as he reflects on the many ups and downs of his career including how he dealt with the aftermath of his sending off in the 2004 Munster final.

As well as the players featured in each programme, there are contributions from team mates and opponents including amongst others; Henry Shefflin, Ger Loughnane, Dan Shanahan, Niall Cahalane, Michael Duignan, Maurice Hayes, Mick O’Dwyer, Cyril Farell, Sean Boylan and Donal O’Grady.

Laochra Gael starts this Sunday on TG4.

 

Ar Fud Na Tíre, 7.30pm on Friday

In the fourth episode Eibhlín visits the picturesque Heilbhic harbour in Co Waterford to find out how local physiotherapist  Cian  Ó Conchúir  is harnessing the powers of seaweed to help heal his patients.

Eibhlín joins Cian as she finds out firsthand the relaxing benefits of seaweed baths and travels out into the bay to meet the local man who harvests the seaweed for Cian.

Also on the programme, ‘Hammy’ Hamilton a skilled crafter of flutes and flute player demonstrates his skills in Cúil Aodha in the heart of the Múscraí Gaeltacht and Ar Fud na Tíre takes in the scenery in Co Waterford on the new Anne Valley Walk.

New Weekly Magazine Series

 ‘Ar Fud na Tíre’  a new 13-part weekly magazine series is now in production and will broadcast on TG4 in the new year.

The Nemeton production team will be travelling all over Ireland with presenter Eibhlín Ní Choistealbha to bring viewers various topical & current news stories each week.

‘Ar Fud na Tíre’ will feature a wide range of local stories, community initiatives, events, festivals, agricultural and rural life to the reflective; characters and personal stories, history and heritage to the colourful and positive; new enterprises, culture, entertainment, sports and youth.

Live Boxing on TG4

Nemeton TV will be producing this weeks live coverage of the National Intermediate Boxing Championships from the National Stadium, Dublin.

All fights will be broadcast live on TG4 in association with the Irish Amateur Boxing Association.
