TG4’s documentary An Pháirc was launched in Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Thursday evening. The documentary gives an inside view into the rebuilding of Páirc Uí Chaoimh and will air on TG4 at 9:30pm, Wednesday 27 September.
In the suburbs of Cork, not far from the city centre and on the banks of its own lovely Lee, lies Cork’s favourite playground; Páirc Uí Chaoimh. For well over a hundred years, this spot has been the mecca for the people of the city and beyond to come and see epic sporting battles and headline music acts.
Now as the famous old stadium has completed its refurbishment, TG4’s An Pháirc will look back on some of the biggest stories to emerge from the “the park” and will tell some new ones never heard before.
Alongside the documenting of a cultural icon, the documentary follows the story of the demolition and reconstruction of a brand new stadium, with behind-the-scenes footage filmed over two years all the way to opening day.
Telling the tale will be GAA heroes such as Billy Morgan, Jack O’Shea, Paul Flynn, Seán Óg Ó hAilpín and Barney Rock, as well as legendary broadcaster Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh and Oliver Barry, the promoter who brought the likes of Michael Jackson and Prince to Cork.
TG4 Sports Editor, Rónán Ó Coisdealbha says, “For scores of thousands of Irish people, this stadium holds many special memories of hurling and football matches and entertainment events held there over the years. This programme will evoke those heady days for many TG4 viewers and is bound to be popular with our audience, at home and abroad.”
Produced by Nemeton TV, and directed by award-winning director Ronan O’Donoghue, An Pháirc is a must see for sports and music fans from all over Ireland.

We were delighted to announce last week to local and industry press that we will now be supplying the big screen entertainment in Croke Park, keeping us at the forefront in Ireland as one of the leading providers of sports content.
Fintan Walsh, one of our Senior Producers explained “We are hugely excited to become such an integral part of the match-day experience, in a venue that is very close to our hearts. Even after all this time, we still get excited pulling up to Croke Park on a match day. Our crews are already there for many big days, sending footage across the world. Now we will have a creative input into the experience for the spectators in the stadium as well. We’ll be creating everything from graphics, interviews, action and of course the scoreboard on the biggest sporting days in the Irish calendar. And on All-Ireland Club Final Day on St. Patrick’s Day we will have two crews in operation – one covering the games for television and online on TG4, and a second delivering an entertaining and exciting package for the supporters in the stadium. Naomh Tomás
The 2013 AIB All-Ireland Club Hurling Final saw St.Thomas defeat Kilcormac-Killoughey in the Croke Park decider.
There were numerous families throughout the team with the Murray, Cooney and Skehill clans all represented. The Burke Clan, though, were the most dominant on the day with Manager John Burke, as well as six of his sons across the team.
In 2016, with John still at the helm, the Burkes are again well represented but as usual their success is also due to their neighbours; the Cooneys and the Skehills!
We have St.Thomas against Ballyea live on TG4 on Feb 4th in this year’s All-Ireland Club Hurling semi-final.

Kelly will though continue playing with his club side Ballincollig. The team won their first ever Cork County Title in 2014 and were also runners-up again in 2016.

Nemeton TV does the #Mannequin Challenge
This week at Nemeton TV we participated in the latest online trend, the #MannequinChallenge.
The viral movement originated in the USA last month, where people upload videos of themselves, posing as statues or mannequins, with the song ‘Black Beatles’ by Rae Sremmurd, playing in the background of most of the videos.
We took to the Nemeton TV studio to jump on the bandwagon and take part in the craze.

Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Things
Nemeton TV Table Quiz in aid of Helvick RNLI.
On Wednesday the 16th November, we are holing a quiz night at 8pm in Mooney’s Pub in An Rinn to raise funds for the Helvick Lifeboat Station, a cause close to our hearts here in the community of An Rinn.
The Table Quiz promises to be a night of fun, good laughs, some great prizes and everyone is invited to attend.
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution is a registered charity that saves lives at sea. It provides a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service to 100 nautical miles out from the coast of the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom.
The RNLI in Ireland has 43 lifeboat stations operating 55 lifeboats in order to provide a ring of safety around the Irish coastline. This fleet enables the lifeboat service to reach at least 90% of all casualties that are within 10 nautical miles of lifeboat stations within 30 minutes of launch, in all weathers.
With 92% of the RNLI’s total income coming from generous donations and legacies, it depends on its dedicated volunteers and supporters to save lives at sea. The public’s support means its lifeboat crews can reunite the 24 people they rescue each day with their families.
Bígí linn ar an oíche.
DIGISAT REACHING A GLOBAL AUDIENCE FOR FIFTEEN YEARS
While hurling fans will be packing their cars with flasks and ham Blaas this weekend for the Munster final, one small team of highly skilled professionals will be packing their vans with dishes of a different kind – those of a satellite variety.
Digisat, part of An Rinn based Nemeton TV, is celebrating 15 years of bringing some of the biggest and best sporting, political and social moments to a global audience by satellite this summer. Audiences all over the globe can thank this small innovative team for transmitting occasions such as the G8 Summit in Lough Erne, the Royal weddings and visits to Ireland by the Queen and US Presidents Bush and Obama to their living rooms.
But it’s the live sporting occasions which fuel the passion of the team, led by An Rinn native and hurling fanatic Tomás Mac Craith. “Munster final day in Thurles – it’s a big one and it’s great that we get to be a small part of that. We’ll certainly take a win on the day but the big prize for us is seeing our vans parked outside Croke Park on All-Ireland Final Day. We will be ‘the sole provider of satellite services for all the finals’ (providing satellite services for all four of the finals) but our eye is definitely on the Liam McCarthy Cup. We will be there to capture the moment Waterford lift the cup and transmit it all over the world. That’s the dream and we’re ready for it!”
But GAA isn’t the only sport this in-demand team will be covering this summer for RTE, TG4 and Sky Sports, among others, as the countdown is also on to the Dublin Horse Show and the Galway Races.
Electric Picnic is also on the agenda and the ever popular Rose of Tralee will be in homes of every Irish citizen and Irish descendant all over the world in August thanks to Digisat.
Congratulating Tomás and his team on 15 years of unrivalled success, Nemeton CEO Irial Mac Murchú said: “We started Digisat 15 years ago out of a need to provide up to the minute satellite services that could match standards all over the world. In that time, Tomás and his team have earned a reputation for their reliable, flexible, no nonsense approach. This has secured Digisat’s place as a first choice uplink provider for many international television networks including TG4, RTÉ, TV3, BBC, Setanta, Network 7, SKY Sports and many others.
“Last year we launched a new state of the art satellite van that has put us to the fore in terms of global satellite services and we look forward to many more years of bringing some of the most important, memorable and historic occasions to television viewers’ homes all over the world.”
WIT STUDENT FILMS CONTINUE TO IMPRESS TG4 EDITORS
There was good news this week for students of the WIT Post Graduate Higher Diploma in TV and Digital Media as TG4 commissioning editors have given their commitment to air a number of the end of year projects during their autumn schedule.
This is career making news for the recent graduates who recently completed one of the most highly regarded film making Post Graduate course in the country at Waterford Institute of Technology, in association with Nemeton TV, one Ireland’s leading production companies, and Údarás na Gaeltachta.
The WIT students continue to make their mark with the national broadcaster, as to date over 40 films from the course have been broadcast.
Applications for next year’s course are open with places limited to 14 for 2017. No prior experience is necessary and the standard of learning is at the highest level in the country. In fact, films produced on the course have gone on to win Best Irish Language documentary at the National Student Media Awards in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
According to course leader, Bláithín Ní Chatháin, the support of TG4 will be instrumental in the students securing employment within the industry. “The Higher Diploma teaches production and camera work, editing and scripting skills as Gaeilge and the varied nature of the course ensures graduates are very well equipped to enter the Irish television industry in a number of positions.
“The course is taught by lecturers from WIT, as well as producers and directors who are actively working with TG4, RTÉ, BBC and TV3. The practical advice and experience they lend to the course gives students a unique insight into the competitive media industry and through their contacts, many of our past graduates have gone on to work with TG4, BBC, Setanta, RTÉ and Nemeton TV.”
While television production is a core subject on the course, so too is film, WebTV, digital marketing video production and PR. The audio visual industry in Ireland is at a very healthy level with €500m annually being spent on productions such as Star Wars, Vikings and Game of Thrones, Ros na Rún and An Klondike, so employment prospects for the right candidates are high.
Throughout the course students heard from many guest speakers and former graduates who are actively working on these productions and others, including EastEnders’ spin-off, Redwater, which is currently being filmed in Dunmore East.
Students who have just completed the course gained valuable, practical work experience on many live Rugby and GAA games for TG4, enjoyed two weeks working on a 10-part TG4 studio show filmed in RTÉ, as well as working on the Live TG4 Music Award show Gradam Ceoil. Other students worked as runners on the live RTÉ show, The Farm and more recently students filmed and edited all the online video content daily during the Celtic Media Festival, under the direction of RTÉ Head of Communications Joseph Hoban.
Applications for next year’s course are open with places limited to 14 for 2017. To apply or for further information see www.wit.ie or email traenáil@nemeton.ie.
