Double Barrel Premiership Weekend
It’s a busy weekend for us as we produce live coverage from the Shinty Premiership, as well as full match coverage from Hibernian v Motherwell on the opening weekend of the Scottish Premiership season.
On Friday night (3rd August), we’ll be in Kingussie for the battle of Badenoch as rivals and neighbours Kingussie and Newtonmore go head to head at The Dell. As well as league points being up for grabs, the teams will also compete for the Sir Tommy MacPherson trophy. Our half-time package is the second part of our feature on Ross Brown, the former Lochcarron player turned referee, Ross discusses what he was like as a player and how he enjoyed being the man in the middle of the Celtic Society final. Live coverage of the Badenoch Derby starts on Friday night from 18:00 on BBC ALBA.
Sunday sees the return of full match coverage from the Scottish Premiership to BBC ALBA as Hibernian host Motherwell. Both sides had their successes last season, with Hibernian finishing fourth in their first season back in the top flight after a three year absence. Motherwell on the other hand finished in the bottom six of the league, but reached both major cup finals. At half-time, we’ve been finding out more about the recent changes from the Development leagues to a new Reserve league structure. The SPFL announced the plans ahead of this coming season. Company Secretary Iain Blair discusses the reasoning behind the move, and we’ve also spoken to last year’s league and cup champions Hibernian on the challenges that come with the new system.
You can watch the full match coverage from 18:00 on Sunday afternoon on BBC ALBA, or catch up on the BBC iPlayer.
